Wedding photography workshop in Malaysia and how Thaipusam festival can help you.

After baking in the sun and splashing at the infinity pool overlooking Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and almost 20, oo miles of traveling I’m back into -8F snowy and windy Canada. Well, I’m lucky to be back on time since my wife decided to give birth by few days earlier. Yes I became a father. I’ll post my son’s image in my next post and if you’d like to see him you can check him on my facebook page.

While teaching at Creative Asia I had a unique opportunity to visit Thaipusam festival. Moreover I had an opportunity to shoot it next to JOE MCNALLY. Imagine how lucky I was to be able to shoot next to Joe himself? Unfortunatelly I didn’t have the camera so I had to borrow one. Neither camera nor flash battery were charged well so I had to shoot with care to conserve the power. Every click was priceless 🙂

Let me know what you think about the results. The lighting is simple: ambient light with TTL flash on the sync cord. The full CTO gelled flash was always in my left hand. this what gives it a warm and beautiful look. No photoshop or actions. I cropped few times and adjusted brightness. Conversion into BW was done in photoshop. Interesting enough I already had few inquires so I’m planning a workshop in Kuala Lumpur next year. Part of it will be applying skills learned in the real environment. This means we will be going to Thaipusam one more time.

This is a slide show from Thaipusam festival that I recommend you to take a look at.

And this is a bit of history about Thaipusam

Khatleen Minerve - Wow I am really really happy to see for the first time some really amazing pictures of that festival. In my country Mauritius, there is this festival too every year and what delights me here is that these images really depict the intensity, the devotion, some of the pain associated with these prayers they conduct. The slideshow and the music are just perfect ! Really this is a great work !

admin - Khatleen, thank you so much. I’ll be having a workshop in KL next year and I’ll shoot more with a bit of a different angle to it. Thanks again.
